A Tear on the Soul

My 23-year-old daughter informed me she was heading “up north” for the weekend to go camping with her boyfriend. I paused, then smiled.

"Be aware of boulders, bears, and boys. Boulders can leave you bruised, bears frightened, but boys. Oh, the boys, they can leave you in love and married with children,

and in 25 years, you will pause and feel a slight tear on your soul as the children will be gone.

If you choose a good boy, he’ll be a good man and still be by your side; a slight wisp of sadness may visit you, but take solace in knowing that you did the best you could with what you had and offered everything for them. And you'll be comforted, and you will smile.”
